SUMMARY:AI Research in Healthcare: Workshop for Patient Partners
DESCRIPTION:Workshop Description\nArtificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly being used in healthcare\, from supporting diagnosis to helping clinicians monitor patients and make treatment decisions. As these tools become more common\, it is important that research reflects the real experiences\, needs\, and priorities of people living with health conditions. \nThis workshop is designed specifically for people with lived experience who are interested in engaging as patient partners in research. \nDelivered through a partnership between TRANSFORM HF\, the Heart Hub\, and T-CAIREM\, this interactive session will explore why researchers use AI in healthcare\, how these tools are applied\, and where patient voices are essential in shaping responsible innovation. \nThrough real-world examples and discussion\, participants will hear from Konrad Samsel (AI Researcher) and Todd Murray (Patient Partner) about how AI research projects are developed\, and how people with lived experience can meaningfully contribute to them. The session will focus on building confidence to ask questions\, identify potential concerns\, and help guide research toward outcomes that matter to patients and caregivers. \nThis workshop complements the AI Research in Healthcare session delivered in November 2025\, with a stronger focus on real-world applications of AI and the lived experience of engaging in AI research as a patient partner. \nBy the end of the session\, participants will be able to: \n\nUnderstand why AI is used in healthcare research and common ways it is applied.\nRecognize potential challenges and ethical considerations\, such as bias\, privacy\, and safety.\nIdentify meaningful ways people with lived experience can shape AI research and ensure it reflects patient priorities.\n\n\n\n\n\nApplicant Eligibility & Selection\nThis workshop is intended for patients\, caregivers\, or family members with lived experience of cardiovascular disease. Space is limited due to the hands-on nature of the workshop\, and preference will be given to applicants who (1) have a basic understanding of health research in Canada\, and (2) are currently participating in or plan to join a research team. \nApplications will be accepted until Sunday\, April 19\, 2026. \nAPPLY NOW
